Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us (Slavic)

The text of this hymn is attributed to a British hymnwriter, Dorothy A. Trupp (1779-1847), and in the West is usually sung to the tune of U.S. musician William B. Bradbury (1816-1868). It was translated into Russian by one of the key leaders of the Russian Evangelical-Christian movement, Ivan Stepanovich Prokhanov (1869-1935), and was also transposed to the minor key – a much more common harmony in Eastern Slavic countries.

Music: William Bradbury (1859), alt'd, as sung in Eastern Slavic Churches

Words: Dorothy Ann Trupp (1840) (?), alt'd

Country: -

Language: Russian

Lyrics:

  1. Saviour, like a shepherd lead us, Much we need Your tender care; In Your pleasant pastures feed us, For our use Your folds prepare: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, You have bought us, Yours we are; Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, You have bought us, Yours we are.

  2. We are yours - would you befriend us, Be the guardian of our way; Keep your flock from sin, defend us, Seek us when we go astray: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, o hear us when we pray; Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, o hear us when we pray.

  3. You have promised to receive us, Poor and sinful though we be; You have mercy to relieve us, Grace to cleanse, and pow’r to free: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, You have loved us, love us still; Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, You have loved us, love us still!
