Prayer Calendar | Jordan

14 April - 20 April 2025

  1. Peace in the Region: Jordan lies in a volatile region and has been actively promoting peace. During the recent Gaza conflict, Jordan’s diplomacy earned it a reputation as a “voice of reason and the call for peace”. Pray that God would bring lasting peace and stability to the Middle East, especially in this holy season. Ask the Lord to protect Jordan and its neighbors from further conflict and to use Jordan’s peacemaking efforts to foster reconciliation and justice for all sides.

  2. Encouragement and Strength for the Churches: The Baptist community in Jordan is small but faithful – roughly 1,500 baptized members worshipping in just over 20 local Baptist congregations. This week, as they joyfully celebrate the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday, pray that the Risen Lord will renew their hope, strength, and joy. They have seen God’s faithfulness since the first Baptist church was planted in the 1950s, and new churches are still being planted today. Later this year, the Jordanian Baptists will even host the EBF Council 2025 in Amman as the EBF celebrates 75 years of ministry. Pray that the Holy Spirit encourages these church leaders and members, uniting them in love and purpose. May their fellowship grow, their witness shine brighter, and their ministry initiatives (like church planting and youth outreach) bear much fruit in Jordan.

  3. Wisdom for Political and Civic Leaders: Pray for King Abdullah II of Jordan and all who serve in government and civic leadership. Jordan’s leaders are navigating tumultuous times – from the fallout of regional conflicts to economic strains at home. (Jordan’s economy and resources are under pressure, in part due to caring for many refugees and the impact of recent regional instability.) International observers have praised the Jordanian King’s efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region. Ask God to grant King Abdullah and his government divine wisdom, courage, and integrity as they make decisions. Pray that they will uphold justice, seek the welfare of all communities (including minorities like Christians), and maintain Jordan as a haven of stability and coexistence. Also pray that these leaders would encounter the hope and light of Christ – “that they may see the hope of Jesus in the lives of Jordanian believers”– and be guided by God’s hand in every challenge they face.

  4. Deepening Love and Unity among Believers (and Toward Neighbors): In the face of regional strife, God is stirring a deeper unity and love among His people. In September 2024, more than a hundred evangelical believers from Jordan, Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon came together in Amman for prayer and fellowship, weeping and worshipping with one voice for peace. This rare gathering, under the theme “That They May Be One,” demonstrated the power of Christ’s love to transcend borders. Pray that such unity will continue to grow among the churches in Jordan – between Baptists and other denominations, between locals and refugees, and across ethnic or cultural lines. Ask the Lord to deepen the love of believers for one another, so that “by this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Also pray for love toward their neighbors of other faiths. Jordanian society is predominantly Muslim, and many Muslims value hospitality and care for those in need (for example, families show generosity to refugees and the poor)
